Opportunity or temptation?

Posted by Craig Westover | 7:54 AM |

The GOP sends out a release entitled “Hatch Race to the Left Begins.” It notes that Hatch is “very proud” of his endorsement from ACORN, a group that "supports massive tax increases, defense cuts, and a national, government-run health care system."

My advice, don’t chase him. If Hatch becomes the nominee and runs further to the left, what incentive is there for the GOP to hold firm on conservative principle? In terms of winning an election, it makes sense for Republicans to move to the left in pursuit of Hatch and appeal to voters he leaves behind. But is that good when it comes time to govern? Anyone still remember the last legislative session?

Hatch Race to the Left Begins
Declares Himself “Very Proud” Of Endorsement By Far-Left, Ethically Challenged ACORN

“By declaring himself ‘very proud’ of his endorsement from the far-left, ethically challenged group ACORN, Mike Hatch today began his sprint to the left in the DFL endorsement battle.

“An ACORN employee in Minnesota pled guilty to two felonies stemming from illegal election activity in 2004. According to ACORN’s website, the group supports massive tax increases, defense cuts, and a national, government-run health care system.

“I doubt most Minnesotans would consider an endorsement from such a group something to be ‘very proud’ of.”
