Captain Fishsticks goes to the Super Bowl

Posted by Craig Westover | 1:19 PM |

I was a little surprised this morning by the number of voyagers from Captain's Quarters that sailed across the blogosphere seas to this little harbor yesterday.

Captain's Quarters is one of the better national and international political blogs (which surprisingly, or not, didn't rate a mention in the Pioneer Press story on blogging today) and a must read for Captain Fishsticks, but with my local focus, rarely do our topics cross paths.

Turns out the influx of traffic came from Captain Ed's live blog of the Super Bowl. Sandwiched between an 8:31 BIG defensive stop for the Pats and an 8:34 sensational catch by Deion Branch was this --
8:32 - Say, was that Craig Westover in that MasterCard commercial?
Can we see where this is going? Writes Captain Ed --
There was a commercial featuring all product mascots, like Charlie the Tuna, the Pillsbury Doughboy, and so on, having a Super Bowl party (I guess). The Mrs. Paul's mascot [close] was included, and I immediately thought of you!
Alas, where is the respect for the mainstream media, anyway? I blame Dan Rather. I'm feeling as abused as the last fishstick that nobody wants because it stuck to the cookie sheet. No one would think to call Walter Cronkite "Captain Brie."

But when all's said and done, it's better to the butt of a friendly (and funny) joke, than just a butt.
