A great piece on St. Paul schools

For those knee-deep in patato salad and hot dogs on Monday and might have missed it, Pioneer Press education reporter Paul Tosto wrote an excellent article appearing on the 4th. The article speculates political ties might be a key characteristic for a superintendent candidate to replace Pat Harvey.

I'd been doing research along a similar line for tomorrow's Pioneer Press column. My take -- The dirty little secret of urban education is that for all the community lip service paid to selecting “the best” superintendents, communities seldom support their selections with the authority to meet highly hyped expectations.

Read the Tosto piece.
